Celebrating his 37th birthday in style, Novak Djokovic claimed his 1,100th ATP victory on Wednesday, defeating unseeded Yannick Hanfmann 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals at the Geneva Open.
The World No. 1 showcased resilience by rallying from a 3-0 deficit in the final set, clinching victory with six consecutive games and sealing the match on his second match point as Hanfmann’s forehand met the net.
During the second-round encounter, Djokovic faced adversity when the match was suspended due to rain with him leading 5-3 in the first set at deuce. Despite wasting a set point and fending off four break points, Djokovic displayed composure to serve out the set with an ace upon resumption.
The 32-year-old German managed to break Djokovic in the second game of the set, capitalizing on Djokovic’s first serve struggles.
Djokovic’s milestone victory further cements his status as one of the most prolific players in ATP history, underlining his dominance in the sport.
