In a commanding 92-75 victory over the Seattle Storm, Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever set a new WNBA rookie record for assists. Clark, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft, contributed 23 points and nine assists in the game. With 232 assists so far this season, Clark surpassed Ticha Penicheiro’s previous rookie record of 224 assists set in 1998.
Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 27 points, while Lexie Hull scored 12 of her career-high 22 points in the fourth quarter. Hull’s performance included a career-best six 3-pointers on seven attempts. Aliyah Boston added nine points, a career-high eight assists, and 15 rebounds.
The game saw a critical moment with Jewell Loyd’s jumper narrowing the Storm’s deficit to 61-60 with 9 minutes remaining. However, Indiana responded with a 14-5 run, featuring two 3-pointers from Hull and a long-range shot from Mitchell, to extend their lead to 75-65.
Skylar Diggins-Smith briefly brought Seattle back into contention with consecutive buckets, but Hull’s back-to-back 3-pointers and Clark’s assist on 3-pointers from Mitchell and Damiris Dantas sealed the win, giving the Fever a 90-71 lead with 2:24 left.
Loyd led Seattle (17-10) with 26 points, Diggins-Smith added 15 points, and Nneka Ogwumike contributed 14 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Despite their efforts, the Storm struggled with their shooting, finishing at 38.9% (28 of 72) from the field.
Indiana (13-15) matched their win total from the 2023 season with this victory and has won four of their last five games. The Fever are 10-5 since the break for the Paris Olympics and have improved their performance after a challenging start to the season.
