Harry Kane remains optimistic about his fitness ahead of England’s European Championship campaign despite a recent setback with a back injury, which led to his absence from Bayern Munich’s recent fixture against Wolfsburg.
The striker sustained the injury during Bayern’s Champions League semi-final match against Real Madrid, where he was forced off the field. Although he missed the Wolfsburg fixture and his availability for the upcoming game against Hoffenheim remains uncertain, sources close to Kane assure that his absence is primarily precautionary, with expectations of him being “100 per cent” fit for Euro 2024 barring any new injuries.
Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel clarified that Kane’s substitution against Real Madrid was due to the back problem, which subsequently ruled him out of the Wolfsburg clash.
Despite his injury, Kane attended Bayern’s final home game of the season, accompanied by his family, for the customary lap of appreciation.
Expressing gratitude to the fans, Kane conveyed his appreciation on social media, emphasizing the warmth and support received throughout the season.
Kane’s absence from Bayern’s final fixtures comes as a disappointment following his prolific season, during which he scored 44 goals for the club. Nonetheless, England manager Gareth Southgate will welcome Kane’s availability for the team’s preparation matches, including the fixture against Bosnia and the send-off friendly against Iceland at Wembley.
England’s training schedule in Germany commences on June 10, preceding their opening Euro 2024 fixture against Serbia on June 16.
Kane’s remarkable goal-scoring record, with 48 goals for club and country this campaign, underscores his significance to both Bayern Munich and the England national team.
