Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has voiced his support for Harvey Elliott, tipping the young midfielder to be a valuable addition to England’s squad for the upcoming European Championship in Germany.
Despite not yet earning a senior international cap, Elliott’s standout performances for Liverpool have bolstered his chances of securing a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
Elliott’s recent stellar display, including a spectacular goal in Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, has further solidified his credentials.
Klopp expressed his backing for Elliott, stating, “Harvey is in a great moment. If someone wants to pick him, he has everything you need. He could pack a suitcase in an instant, not a problem.”
The 21-year-old has amassed 51 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions this season, with 25 starts to his name.
Reflecting on Elliott’s contributions, Klopp acknowledged the midfielder’s versatility and impact, particularly during a demanding period in January when injuries plagued the squad.
“During a very intense period in January when we had a lot of injuries, he played really well. Right wing, right midfield, probably our best player.”
While lamenting the limited starting opportunities for Elliott, Klopp emphasized the midfielder’s significant impact whenever called upon.
“Then players came back, he got minutes here, minutes there, didn’t start any more. But when he came on he made a big impact.”
