Kevin Durant expressed his admiration for Stephen Curry after Curry played a crucial role in Team USA’s semifinal victory against Serbia, securing a comeback win of 95-91.
“That was a God-like performance,” Durant stated to reporters after the game, including Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press.
Curry’s exceptional outside shooting helped keep Team USA in the game as Serbia built a lead of up to 17 points. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Americans trailed by 13 but mounted a comeback, outscoring Serbia 32-15 in the final period.
Curry’s performance included shooting 9-of-14 from three-point range, capped off by a go-ahead triple with 2:24 left, which helped secure the win. He contributed nine points and a steal in the final 10 minutes, finishing the game with 36 points—just one shy of Carmelo Anthony’s Olympic record for a U.S. men’s player.
Team USA head coach Steve Kerr reflected on the game’s significance, stating, “I’m really humbled to have been a part of this game. It’s one of the greatest basketball games I’ve ever been a part of. They were perfect. They played a perfect game. Our coaches were saying, Villanova-Georgetown, for all of our older readers and viewers out there.”
Kerr emphasized the high level of competition, saying, “But they played the perfect game, and they forced us to reach the highest level of competition that we could find. And our guys were incredible in that fourth quarter, and they got it done.”
