Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone secured gold in the 400m hurdles on Thursday, breaking her own world record in the process. This marks her second consecutive Olympic title in this event, having first won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
McLaughlin-Levrone clocked a time of 50.37 seconds, surpassing her previous world record of 50.65 seconds, set during the U.S. Olympic trials in June. This victory makes her the first woman in history to win back-to-back titles in the 400m hurdles at the Olympics.
Anna Cockrell of the United States claimed the silver medal, while Femke Bol of the Netherlands took bronze. At 25, McLaughlin-Levrone has now earned three Olympic gold medals, including one from the 4x400m relay in Tokyo. Notably, she holds six of the top 10 fastest times ever recorded in the women’s 400m hurdles.
