Macklin Celebrini will rejoin the San Jose Sharks lineup on Tuesday for their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, head coach Ryan Warsofsky confirmed to Curtis Pashelka of The Mercury News.
Celebrini, who was initially injured during the season opener against the St. Louis Blues, has missed the past 12 games due to a reported hip injury. Despite the injury, the 18-year-old forward played 17:35 in his NHL debut, scoring one goal and adding an assist in the Sharks’ overtime loss.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft revealed Monday that he sustained the injury on his first shift of the opening game but chose to continue playing. “Nothing will stop me from playing Tuesday,” Celebrini stated.
The Sharks had placed Celebrini on injured reserve on Oct. 12, labeling him as week-to-week. He also missed two preseason games after leaving an exhibition matchup against Utah with an injury.
Without Celebrini, the Sharks struggled, going 3-8-1 over the past 12 games. The team endured an eight-game losing streak after their season opener, becoming the first NHL club in history to begin consecutive seasons with nine straight losses. However, the Sharks managed to win three games in a row before losing 3-2 to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
