Evgeni Malkin scored his 500th career goal in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 6-5 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night. The goal came in the third period when Malkin buried his own rebound. Following the milestone goal, the entire Penguins team came onto the ice to celebrate with him.
Malkin became the 48th player in NHL history to reach the 500-goal mark, achieving it in his 1,150th game. The 38-year-old has played all 18-plus seasons of his career with the Penguins, who selected him second overall in the 2004 NHL Draft.
In addition to the historic goal, Malkin recorded three assists during the game, contributing to the Penguins’ win. So far this season, Malkin has registered two goals and nine assists in five games.
Earlier in the contest, Sidney Crosby reached his own milestone by becoming the 10th player in NHL history to reach 1,600 career points.
