The Ottawa Senators have signed unrestricted free-agent forward Nick Cousins to a one-year, $800,000 contract, the team announced on Thursday.
The Senators reached out to Cousins when free agency began on July 1. However, at that time, he was looking for a longer contract and higher compensation, as reported by Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch.
Cousins, who played the past two seasons with the Florida Panthers, was part of the team that won its first Stanley Cup championship this spring. During the playoffs, he appeared in 12 games, recording one assist while averaging under nine minutes of ice time per game.
In the 2023-24 regular season, Cousins participated in 69 games, scoring seven goals and earning 15 points.
Drafted by Philadelphia in the third round of the 2011 NHL Draft, Cousins is a 31-year-old veteran with 592 NHL games under his belt. Over his 10-season career, he has played for the Flyers, Arizona Coyotes, Montreal Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights, Nashville Predators, and Panthers.
Throughout his NHL career, Cousins has accumulated 71 goals, 180 points, 766 hits, and 312 penalty minutes.
