Martin Necas will continue his tenure with the Carolina Hurricanes, as the team has re-signed the restricted free-agent forward to a two-year contract worth $13 million, with an average annual value of $6.5 million. The announcement was made by the team on Monday.
At the end of this contract, Necas will become an unrestricted free agent.
“Martin is an immensely skilled player who provides a scoring threat whenever the puck is on his stick,” said Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky. “He will play a key role in the continued success of our franchise, and we’re excited to have a multi-year contract done.”
Despite trade rumors swirling around Necas this offseason, no deal was finalized. Reports indicated that approximately half of the teams in the league had shown interest in his availability.
In the previous season, the 25-year-old Necas recorded 53 points in 77 games as a winger. He achieved a career-high 28 goals and 43 assists during the 2022-23 season while playing both center and winger.
The Hurricanes drafted Necas 12th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft.
Currently, Seth Jarvis is the only remaining restricted free agent for the Hurricanes, who have about $6.5 million in cap space left.
