The Carolina Panthers have secured running back Chuba Hubbard on a four-year contract extension, the team confirmed on Thursday. The deal is reported to be worth $33.2 million, with $15 million guaranteed, and a potential value of up to $37.2 million, according to sources close to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Hubbard, who joined the NFL as a fourth-round pick in 2021, is having his most productive season to date in 2024. Through nine games, he has accumulated 665 rushing yards on 5 yards per carry and five touchdowns. Additionally, he has caught 26 passes for 108 yards and one touchdown.
In 2023, Hubbard set a career-high with 1,135 scrimmage yards, including 902 rushing yards. Over his 58 appearances with the Panthers, the Canadian running back has totaled 2,645 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns.
At 25 years old, Hubbard is now under contract with the Panthers through the 2028 season. This extension comes as the team continues its rebuild following the trade of wide receivers Diontae Johnson and Jonathan Mingo ahead of the Nov. 5 trade deadline.
The Panthers also selected running back Jonathon Brooks in the second round of the 2024 draft as the first RB off the board. However, Brooks has yet to play due to injury.
Under the guidance of first-year head coach Dave Canales, the Panthers are working to solidify their quarterback situation, with 2023 No. 1 pick Bryce Young currently leading the offense, though he has faced challenges in meeting expectations so far.
