The Kansas City Chiefs are finalizing a trade to acquire wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
In the deal, the Titans will receive a 2025 fifth-round draft pick, which could upgrade to a fourth-round selection if the Chiefs reach the Super Bowl and Hopkins participates in at least 60% of the team’s snaps, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Additionally, Tennessee will cover $2.5 million of Hopkins’ salary.
Hopkins is expected to arrive in Kansas City on Wednesday, with hopes that he can participate in the game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, sources informed The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.
The Chiefs, the reigning Super Bowl champions, have been under pressure to bolster their receiving corps following injuries to starters Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice. JuJu Smith-Schuster is also anticipated to miss time due to a hamstring issue, leaving rookie Xavier Worthy as the primary option in a depleted wide receiver lineup.
At 32 years old, Hopkins is coming off a solid season in which he recorded 75 receptions for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns. However, his production has dipped this season, with only 15 catches for 173 yards and one touchdown over six games. This decline may be linked to an August knee injury and the struggles of Titans quarterback Will Levis.
With a 1-5 record, the Titans appear to be in a rebuilding phase, while the undefeated Chiefs are making a significant move on the trade market as they pursue a third consecutive Super Bowl title.
