The New Orleans Saints are set to sign running back Alvin Kamara to a two-year contract extension worth $24.5 million, as reported by his agent to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
The agreement includes $22 million guaranteed and will keep Kamara under contract through the 2026 season. This extension will also provide the Saints with approximately $18 million in salary-cap savings for the 2025 season, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
At 29 years old, Kamara still had one year remaining on his previous deal; however, his cap number for 2025 would have reached $29 million, per Over The Cap.
Kamara has played his entire NFL career with the Saints after being drafted in the third round in 2017. Over 108 games with New Orleans, he has accumulated 10,738 scrimmage yards and scored 84 total touchdowns.
While Kamara has never surpassed 1,000 rushing yards in a season, he is on track to exceed 1,000 yards from scrimmage for the eighth consecutive year. In the current season, he has recorded an NFL-high 145 touches, totaling 690 yards and seven touchdowns in seven games.
Negotiations for a new deal took place during the offseason, but the parties were unable to come to an agreement at that time. Kamara stated on September 2 that he would not revisit his contract situation until after the 2024 season.
