The Tennessee Titans have granted safety Jamal Adams’ request for a release, as confirmed by his agents, Kevin Conner and Robert Brown, to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
According to ESPN’s Turron Davenport, Adams asked for his release to seek more opportunities to contribute. His departure from the team coincides with his 29th birthday.
The Titans’ primary concern with Adams was his limited practice time, a source told Davenport. Adams was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list due to a hip issue prior to Tennessee’s Week 6 game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Despite the setback, Adams is now healthy and eager to explore his next opportunity, Schefter reports.
The three-time Pro Bowl safety signed with the Titans on a veteran minimum deal. However, he managed only 20 snaps across three games before being sidelined, as noted by John Glennon of the Nashville Post.
Adams, an LSU alum, was a first-round pick by the New York Jets in the 2017 NFL Draft. He earned a first-team All-Pro selection in 2019. Ahead of the 2020 season, the Jets traded him to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for two first-round picks.
Injuries have posed a challenge for Adams in recent seasons. He appeared in just 10 games during his final two years with Seattle, which released him in March.
During his brief tenure with Tennessee, Adams recorded four tackles.
