New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery for a torn meniscus, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Thursday.
Shaheed was placed on injured reserve and faces a recovery timeline of four to six months, according to Schefter. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added that doctors opted for a full repair of Shaheed’s meniscus rather than a trimming procedure, which generally requires a longer recovery period.
The 26-year-old receiver had a strong start to the season, catching 20 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns. In addition to his receiving contributions, Shaheed returned a punt for a touchdown.
The Saints’ offense has been hit hard by injuries. Wide receiver Chris Olave is set to miss Thursday’s game against the Denver Broncos due to a concussion, while quarterback Derek Carr remains sidelined with an oblique injury.
In light of the injuries, New Orleans is reportedly interested in New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams as a potential addition to their roster.
