Tom Brady, the legendary quarterback and seven-time Super Bowl champion, has officially been approved by NFL owners as a minority stakeholder in the Las Vegas Raiders. Brady shared his excitement and gratitude for this new chapter in a statement on X, saying he was “incredibly humbled” and “excited” to join the Raiders.
Brady’s investment amounts to 10% of the Raiders, split between himself and businessman Tom Wagner. Brady’s personal stake represents 5%, and the purchase was made from team owner Mark Davis. The approval ends any speculation about Brady making a return to the NFL as a player, as league rules prohibit team owners from participating as players.
Currently in his first year as a Fox Sports broadcaster, Brady will face restrictions due to his new ownership status. He will be prohibited from entering other teams’ facilities or practice fields and from attending broadcast production meetings. In addition, any public criticism of game officials or other teams could result in fines, as he is now subject to the NFL’s gambling and anti-tampering policies.
Brady’s minority ownership was initially agreed upon with Davis in May 2023, but the deal faced delays due to concerns about the terms of the purchase and Brady’s dual role as a broadcaster. The deal needed approval from the NFL’s finance committee and a vote from league owners, which has now been granted.
Though Brady is no longer eligible to play, Raiders owner Mark Davis believes the NFL great can still offer value to the team. “Although Tom can’t play, I think he can help us select a quarterback in the future and potentially train him as well,” Davis told Mark Maske of the Washington Post. “So, it’s a huge benefit for the organization.”
Brady’s former teammate Richard Seymour also joined the Raiders’ ownership group on the same day, stating on X that he was “deeply grateful, humbled, and honored to become a NFL owner.”
Brady retired from professional football after the 2022 season, concluding a 23-year career. His achievements include six Super Bowl victories with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
