Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson was carted off the field during the team’s 47-9 victory over the Dallas Cowboys after suffering a significant leg injury. Following the game, a Lions official confirmed that Hutchinson has a broken tibia, as reported by ESPN’s Eric Woodyard. He underwent immediate surgery at a hospital in Dallas, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Head coach Dan Campbell stated, “He’ll be down for a while,” as reported by Colton Pouncy of The Athletic.
Hutchinson, an early contender for Defensive Player of the Year, left the game early in the third quarter with the Lions leading 34-6. He was seen with an air cast on his leg shortly after being ruled out due to a lower-leg injury.
The injury occurred while Hutchinson was sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Cameras captured Hutchinson appearing to indicate he had broken his leg. Players from both teams expressed their concern and support for Hutchinson on the field following the injury.
The 24-year-old currently leads the NFL with 7.5 sacks this season. Hutchinson also earned his first Pro Bowl selection after achieving a career-high 11.5 sacks in 2023. Notably, he has not missed any games due to injury since joining the NFL.
In the aftermath, the NFL community reacted on social media, showing support for the Michigan native.
