The Dallas Cowboys received disappointing news regarding the injuries sustained by Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence during Thursday’s 20-15 victory over the New York Giants.
Head coach Mike McCarthy informed the media on Friday that Lawrence’s foot sprain is more severe than Parsons’ ankle injury, with both injuries being worse than initially thought, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.
Parsons is reported to have suffered a high ankle sprain when a Giants offensive lineman rolled onto his leg in the fourth quarter. Following the incident, he was carted to the locker room after being assessed in the medical tent.
In contrast, Lawrence is expected to miss a minimum of four weeks due to his foot sprain, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. He is a strong candidate to be placed on injured reserve.
McCarthy also noted that both players are seeking second opinions regarding their injuries, per Machota.
Earlier in the game against the Giants, Parsons dealt with a neck injury but managed to return to play.
During the game, Lawrence recorded one sack, one tackle for loss, and one quarterback hit. The 32-year-old currently leads the Cowboys with three sacks over the first three games of the season and has been selected for the Pro Bowl in each of the last two years.
The Cowboys, currently with a 2-2 record, will face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 5, followed by a matchup against the Detroit Lions in Week 6, before heading into a bye week.
