Joe Burrow has addressed concerns about his surgically repaired wrist, insisting it is not affecting his performance. Footage from the Cincinnati Bengals’ Week 1 loss to the New England Patriots showed Burrow flexing his wrist, including a viral moment where he picked up a water bottle in an unusual manner.
Burrow downplayed the incident, stating his wrist is “absolutely not” impacting his throws, as reported by ESPN’s Ben Baby. “(No), what did I do?,” Burrow responded Wednesday when asked about the water bottle clip. “I picked it up weird? I don’t know. I drank water. Can’t say I’ve seen that or know what anybody’s talking about.”
The Bengals quarterback’s 2023 season was limited to 10 games due to a torn ligament in his wrist, which ended his campaign. Concerns about his health were heightened after Burrow averaged only 5.7 yards per attempt in Cincinnati’s 16-10 Week 1 loss to New England.
Burrow clarified that flexing his wrist is part of his recovery process. “That’s part of ligament injuries,” he said, according to Baby. “If you don’t move it, you’re going to lose it, so I’m always moving it around, keeping it loose, keeping my mobility the way it’s supposed to be, so it’s going to continue to happen.”
The Bengals are set to face the Kansas City Chiefs on the road in Week 2.
