The Miami Dolphins and cornerback Jalen Ramsey have agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $72.3 million, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The extension carries an average annual value of $24.1 million.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the deal guarantees Ramsey $55.3 million. This agreement positions Ramsey as the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL for the second time in his career. Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II had recently set the benchmark earlier in the week with an extension averaging $24 million annually.
Since being drafted fifth overall in 2016, Ramsey has established himself as one of the top defensive backs in the league. The 29-year-old has earned seven consecutive Pro Bowl selections and three first-team All-Pro honors.
Ramsey joined the Dolphins before the 2023 season via a trade. During his first season in Miami, he recorded 22 total tackles, three interceptions, and five pass deflections over 10 games. According to Pro Football Reference, Ramsey allowed a 53.8% completion rate and a 51.1 passer rating in coverage.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel indicated that Ramsey is expected to return to practice on Friday, but his availability for the team’s Week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars remains unclear, per Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network. Ramsey has been recovering from a hamstring injury.
Over the course of his 118-game career, Ramsey has accumulated 22 interceptions, 97 pass deflections, and six forced fumbles while playing for the Dolphins, Los Angeles Rams, and Jacksonville Jaguars.
