The San Francisco 49ers have placed wide receiver Ricky Pearsall on the reserve/non-football injury list, as reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. This designation ensures Pearsall will miss at least the first four games of the 2024 NFL season.
The 23-year-old wide receiver sustained a gunshot wound to the chest during an attempted robbery in central San Francisco on Saturday afternoon. Pearsall was hospitalized but was released the following day, according to local reports.
A 17-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting, as confirmed by police.
Pearsall, who was drafted by the 49ers in the first round earlier this year, was expected to contribute significantly to the team’s offense, which also includes running back Christian McCaffrey, tight end George Kittle, and wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel.
Before joining the NFL, Pearsall played two seasons at the University of Florida, where he achieved a career-high 965 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2023.
The 49ers are scheduled to open their 2024 season at home against the New York Jets on September 9.
