Brandon Aiyuk has reached a new agreement with the San Francisco 49ers.
The All-Pro receiver, who requested a trade from the team in July, has signed a four-year, $120-million contract extension, with $76 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
The extension reflects the offer initially made on August 12, before Aiyuk began holding out during training camp, sources informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Throughout the offseason, Aiyuk missed several practices while negotiating his contract, with the 49ers reportedly close to trading him earlier in the year. Discussions were held with the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, and Pittsburgh Steelers, but Aiyuk was reportedly not interested in playing for the Browns or Patriots.
San Francisco attempted to negotiate a trade with the Steelers, seeking a wide receiver as part of the deal. However, Pittsburgh, lacking depth at the position, could not accommodate this request. The 49ers were reportedly willing to trade Aiyuk only if they could secure a high-profile replacement. The team offered a third-round pick to the Denver Broncos for wideout Courtland Sutton, but the deal was not accepted, preventing the trade to Pittsburgh.
Additionally, San Francisco explored trade options for Aiyuk and teammate Deebo Samuel during the 2024 NFL Draft but decided to retain both players. The 49ers also selected receiver Ricky Pearsall with the 31st overall pick in April, adding to their roster.
With one year remaining on his rookie contract, Aiyuk’s new deal extends his time with the 49ers for five more seasons. He joins a group of six wide receivers with an average annual salary of at least $30 million, including Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, A.J. Brown, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Tyreek Hill. Jefferson leads the group with an annual salary of $35 million. Lamb, Brown, and St. Brown also signed their extensions in 2024.
Aiyuk earned a second-team All-Pro honor in 2023, recording 75 receptions for a career-high 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games. His average of 17.9 yards per reception was the second-highest in the NFL among eligible receivers. Since being drafted 25th overall in 2020 out of Arizona State, Aiyuk has achieved two 1,000-yard seasons.
With Aiyuk’s contract now settled, the 49ers will shift their focus to renegotiating Trent Williams’ contract. The All-Pro left tackle has been holding out in search of a pay increase from the team.
