The NFL has issued multiple suspensions on Friday, citing violations of the league’s personal conduct policy. Among the players affected, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Zay Jones received a five-game suspension, while Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Alaric Jackson was handed a two-game suspension.
Jones, who was arrested in November last year on misdemeanor domestic battery charges—later dropped in March—will be eligible to return to the Cardinals in Week 6 for their road game against the Green Bay Packers. The NFL conducted its investigation into the incident and determined a five-game suspension was warranted. Jones, 29, recently signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals after spending the past two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jackson, who has been with the Rams since 2021 after signing as an undrafted free agent from Iowa, will miss the Rams’ season opener against the Detroit Lions and their Week 2 game against the Arizona Cardinals. The 26-year-old offensive lineman, who overcame a blood clot diagnosis that sidelined him at the end of the 2022 season, started all 15 games he played last season, including the Rams’ lone playoff game. Jackson signed a one-year restricted free agent tender worth $4.89 million this offseason and is expected to return in Week 3 when Los Angeles hosts the San Francisco 49ers.
Additionally, free agent cornerbacks J.C. Jackson and Chris Claybrooks have also been suspended. J.C. Jackson received a one-game suspension. He spent the 2023 season between the Chargers and Patriots, rejoining New England after an October trade. Jackson played in eight games, including six starts, and recorded 25 tackles and six pass breakups.
Claybrooks, a former Jacksonville Jaguars player, was suspended for eight games, with the suspension already deemed served while he was on the Commissioner’s Exempt List last season. Claybrooks faced legal issues in 2023, including an April arrest in Tennessee for domestic assault with bodily injury and vandalism, followed by a July arrest in Florida for domestic violence. The 26-year-old cornerback was drafted by the Jaguars in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Memphis.
