The Washington Commanders have traded wide receiver Jahan Dotson and a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles. In return, the Commanders receive a 2025 third-round pick and two seventh-round selections, as announced by both teams on Thursday.
Dotson, who was drafted in the first round by Washington in 2022, played two seasons with the team. During his tenure, he appeared in 29 games, starting 26, and accumulated 84 receptions for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns.
With the addition of new offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, Dotson’s role as the second starting receiver behind Terry McLaurin had become less clear. Commanders head coach Dan Quinn noted earlier this month that multiple receivers were competing for the second wideout position.
Trade interest in Dotson had been growing in recent days, according to a source cited by Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post.
Dotson’s move to the Eagles adds another receiving option to their lineup, complementing A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. This trade follows the earlier signing of running back Saquon Barkley, making Dotson the second significant addition to the Eagles’ skill positions this offseason.
Dotson is versatile, able to play both on the outside and in the slot. Last season, 42.1% of his passing snaps were from the slot, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF).
The Commanders’ remaining receivers include Olamide Zaccheaus, Dyami Brown, and Luke McCaffrey.
