The Atlanta Falcons have signed cornerback A.J. Terrell to a four-year contract extension, the team announced on Thursday.
The extension is valued at $81 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal includes $65.8 million in guaranteed money, marking the highest guaranteed amount ever given to a cornerback on a four-year deal.
The contract’s average annual value of $20.25 million ranks second among all cornerbacks, based on data from Over The Cap.
“A homegrown player, he embodies the characteristics and traits we want as a Falcon,” said general manager Terry Fontenot. “He leads by example with his work ethic, and as a great teammate, he does anything he can to help this team win on a continuous basis.”
Terrell, who was a second-team All-Pro in 2021, has recorded 43 pass deflections and four interceptions over 61 career games. Additionally, he has forced four fumbles and accumulated 11 tackles for loss.
The 25-year-old Terrell will be part of a secondary that includes safeties Jessie Bates and recent signee Justin Simmons.
