The Kansas City Chiefs have secured another key player in their roster, agreeing to a contract extension with center Creed Humphrey. The new deal, as reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz, will make Humphrey the highest-paid center in the NFL. The four-year contract is valued at $72 million, with $50 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Humphrey, who was about to enter the final year of his rookie contract, now has an average annual salary of $18 million, significantly higher than the next highest-paid center, Frank Ragnow of the Detroit Lions, who earns $13.5 million per year, according to Spotrac.
With this contract, Humphrey becomes the sixth-highest-paid interior offensive lineman in the league, trailing only Philadelphia Eagles guard Landon Dickerson, who has an average annual salary of $21 million.
The 25-year-old Humphrey has been a consistent presence on the Chiefs’ offensive line, starting every game over the past three seasons. His contributions have been crucial to the Chiefs’ success, including their Super Bowl victories with Patrick Mahomes as quarterback. Humphrey has also earned two Pro Bowl selections and was named a second-team All-Pro in 2022.
Alongside Joe Thuney and Trey Smith, Humphrey forms a formidable interior line for Kansas City. The Chiefs, who recently extended contracts for tight end Travis Kelce and defensive lineman Chris Jones, are entering the 2024 season with the aim of becoming the first team in NFL history to achieve a Super Bowl three-peat.
