Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is unfazed by his current salary position despite recent developments in the lucrative quarterback market.
“Listen, everyone’s gonna have their day,” Allen said Tuesday, according to News 4 Buffalo’s Nick Veronica. “I’m happy that everyone’s getting what they’re worth, right? I think that, as the game progresses and guys keep getting paid, the market is the market. I’ve got no problem with where I’m at right now.
“I had my day a couple of years ago, and I’m sure someday I’ll have it again. But I think the main thing is … playing football to the best of my ability, and everything else will take care of itself.”
Allen, 28, signed a six-year, $258 million extension in August 2021, making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks at that time. However, his current annual salary of $43 million now ranks him as the 13th-highest paid quarterback. Recent contracts signed by quarterbacks such as Jordan Love, Tua Tagovailoa, and Trevor Lawrence have surpassed Allen’s deal.
Earlier this offseason, Allen reportedly agreed to restructure his contract to provide the Bills with $16.7 million in additional cap space.
Since being drafted seventh overall in 2018, Allen has been a key figure in the Bills’ success. The two-time Pro Bowler has led Buffalo to four consecutive AFC East titles. However, the team has been eliminated in the divisional round of the playoffs in each of the last three seasons.
In the upcoming 2024 season, Allen is aiming to guide the Bills further into the playoffs. The team will have to adjust to a younger roster following the departure of several veteran players, including wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who was traded to the Houston Texans. Joe Brady, who served as interim offensive coordinator last season, will take on the role full-time.
Last season, Allen threw for 4,306 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions, finishing with a quarterback rating of 92.2. He also contributed 524 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground.
