Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott expressed optimism on Thursday about the ongoing discussions regarding his contract extension as he enters the final season of his $160-million, four-year deal.
“Good conversations are going on, I will say that,” Prescott shared. He emphasized that whether labeled as negotiations or simply conversations, the discussions have been positive. “A lot of good things are going on there, so a lot of confidence. Once again, as I’ve said any time I feel like I’ve talked about it, I’ve got confidence in my guys, these guys getting something done.”
When asked about his level of awareness regarding the negotiations, Prescott humorously replied, “depends on how good it (the offer) is.”
At 31, Prescott has maintained a composed demeanor while discussing his contract situation during training camp. He has reiterated his desire to stay with the Cowboys, the team he has played for throughout his eight-year career. However, he acknowledges that the business aspect of the sport might lead to him playing elsewhere next season.
Last season, Prescott accumulated 4,516 passing yards and 36 touchdowns, with nine interceptions. This marked the third time in his career that he has thrown for over 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns in a single season.
The Cowboys are currently navigating two high-profile contract situations involving Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Lamb is holding out of training camp as he seeks a new contract. Over the past three seasons, Prescott and Lamb have connected for 30 touchdowns.
