Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has confirmed that edge rusher Jaelan Phillips is coming off the PUP list and will participate in practice on Monday, according to Armando Salguero of OutKick.
Phillips, a key figure in the Dolphins’ defense, was sidelined at the start of training camp due to an Achilles injury sustained during a November game. The 2021 first-round pick has made a significant impact in his first 42 NFL appearances, recording 52 quarterback hits and 22 sacks.
At just 25 years old, Phillips achieved a career-high of 8.5 sacks in his rookie season. In 2023, he tallied 6.5 sacks in just eight games before his season was cut short by injury. “I’m ready to hit somebody,” Phillips stated on Monday, as reported by Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network.
In addition, McDaniel noted that receiver Odell Beckham Jr. remains unable to practice and is classified as week-to-week due to undisclosed injuries. Beckham, 31, joined the Dolphins this year.
The Dolphins also face challenges on defense, as two-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher Bradley Chubb continues to remain on the PUP list following a torn ACL injury sustained in December.
To bolster their pass-rushing capabilities amid these injuries, the Dolphins added several players during the offseason, including first-round rookie Chop Robinson and veteran Emmanuel Ogbah, who was released by the team in February but re-signed in July.
