According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, multiple teams have expressed interest in trading for New England Patriots edge rusher Matthew Judon.
Judon is currently in a contract stalemate with the Patriots, seeking a new deal. He is set to earn $6.5 million after agreeing to an adjusted contract with the team last summer. Although New England extended a contract offer to Judon this summer, the four-time Pro Bowler declined it.
The 31-year-old returned to practice a couple of weeks ago after a visible argument with head coach Jerod Mayo during practice. Additionally, he reportedly had a spirited discussion with team executives Mike Groh and Eliot Wolf.
Judon addressed the situation with reporters last week, stating, “We had a conversation. I didn’t want to be a distraction to the team, so I went inside.” He explained, “I wasn’t participating in those drills that day. I went inside, and then I got a message, so I came back and talked to the GM, our GM. Then I went back inside. Sorry, I’m animated. I talk with my hands.”
Despite the ongoing negotiations, Judon indicated his willingness to play the 2024 season under his current contract. “I got to play. I didn’t say nothing about practice,” he noted. “I have to go out there and play, play the game. Do what I’m contracted and obligated to do so I don’t lose money.”
Last season, Judon suffered a torn bicep that limited him to just four games. However, he has been a standout performer for the Patriots since signing a four-year deal in 2021, amassing a total of 32 sacks in 38 games.
