Things got heated during the Seattle Seahawks’ training camp practice on Wednesday, with several skirmishes breaking out among players. A notable incident involved star receiver DK Metcalf and cornerback Tre Brown, captured in a viral video during a live segment on NFL Network. In the footage, Metcalf swings Brown’s helmet toward him, inadvertently striking corner K’Von Wallace, who was among those trying to diffuse the situation, according to The Associated Press.
ESPN’s Brady Henderson reported that the Seahawks’ practice featured at least five fights. Among these were confrontations between Brown and wide receiver Jake Bobo, as well as a clash between linebacker Tyrel Dodson and tight end Pharaoh Brown during a goal-line drill, as noted by Michael-Shawn Dugar from The Athletic.
Seahawks first-year head coach Mike Macdonald addressed the situation after practice, emphasizing the need for players to look out for one another. “We’re right on the line right now, and I think the guys realize that. Like, ‘Hey, let’s take care of one another.’ Definitely don’t want people fighting out here and stuff, especially against our own teammates.”
Following the incident between Metcalf and Brown, Macdonald reportedly gathered the team to discuss the matter, noting that Metcalf delivered a constructive message at the end of practice to help put things in perspective. “DK gave a great message at the end of practice, just kind of put everything in perspective. The guys finished it out the right way,” he stated.
“I think we’re tired of going against one another,” Macdonald added, reflecting on the intensity of the practice ahead of the Seahawks’ preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday.
Metcalf has faced challenges with penalties in the past, drawing five personal fouls during the 2023 season. The 26-year-old was ejected from a December game against the San Francisco 49ers for his involvement in a scuffle.
