The NFL has fined the Detroit Lions and New York Giants $200,000 each due to multiple fights that occurred during their joint practices this week. The league confirmed the fines on Wednesday.
In July, the NFL issued a memo to all teams, emphasizing that fighting and unprofessional conduct during joint practices would not be tolerated.
One of the most significant altercations took place on Monday, involving Giants quarterback Daniel Jones and Lions defensive lineman Alim McNeill. The confrontation began when McNeill pushed down Giants center Greg Van Roten, prompting Jones to retaliate. Jones commented on the incident, stating it was necessary to “stand up for your guys.”
The following day, during practice, first-round pick Malik Nabers and Lions defensive back Kerby Joseph also engaged in a physical exchange.
The Lions are scheduled to open their preseason against the Giants on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. ET.
