The San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers are currently engaged in negotiations regarding a potential trade for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. However, sources including Dianna Russini, Matt Barrows, and Mike DeFabo of The Athletic report that the 49ers are not satisfied with the offers presented by the Steelers so far.
According to reports, the 49ers would like the Steelers to include a wide receiver in the trade package. Initially, it was reported on Monday that the Steelers were no longer a viable destination for Aiyuk after they declined to meet San Francisco’s trade terms. However, the Steelers have reportedly re-entered discussions with the 49ers, alongside the Cleveland Browns. The New England Patriots were also seen as potential contenders for Aiyuk’s services, but the second-team All-Pro wide receiver is said to be uninterested in joining the Patriots.
Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has indicated that the Steelers are not close to finalizing a trade for Aiyuk and reported earlier on Wednesday that Pittsburgh is unwilling to part with a player as part of the agreement.
The Steelers possess considerable depth at linebacker and running back. However, they have raised concerns about their wide receiver depth after trading former 1,000-yard receiver Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers in the offseason.
George Pickens leads Pittsburgh’s wide receiver depth chart, which also includes Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin III, and Roman Wilson. Wilson, a third-round rookie selected in April, is currently considered week-to-week due to an ankle injury.
In contrast, the Browns are reportedly willing to include five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper in their trade efforts to acquire Aiyuk.
