Pittsburgh Steelers rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson is now considered week-to-week following an ankle injury he sustained during practice on Tuesday, according to sources reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
The injury is identified as an ankle sprain, as detailed by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who indicated that the 23-year-old Wilson is expected to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.
The injury occurred during a jet sweep play, leading to Wilson being carted off the practice field.
Wilson was selected by the Steelers in the third round of the draft in April after a successful collegiate career at Michigan. His absence during training camp could present challenges for the team’s wide receiver depth.
Currently, Pittsburgh’s wide receiver corps is led by 1,000-yard receiver George Pickens, but it lacks significant depth. Van Jefferson is projected to start alongside Pickens in 2024, while the Steelers also have Calvin Austin, Scotty Miller, and Quez Watkins on their roster.
Since trading wideout Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh has been connected to various veteran pass-catchers but has not yet made a significant move to strengthen the receiving unit. Recently, Pickens stated that the current receivers are “good enough.”
