The Miami Dolphins and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa have finalized a four-year, $212.4-million contract extension, according to Tagovailoa’s agency, which informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The agreement guarantees $167 million, Schefter reports.
Tagovailoa’s $53.1-million average annual value ranks third among all quarterbacks, following the Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow and Jacksonville Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence, who both have deals averaging $55 million per season.
Last season, Tagovailoa led the league with 4,624 passing yards. He also recorded 29 touchdowns against 14 interceptions, earning his first career Pro Bowl selection.
Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who led all receivers last season with 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns, expressed excitement about the extension.
Tagovailoa has started 51 games since being selected fifth overall in the 2020 draft, including all 17 games in the 2023 season, marking the first time he was available for every contest.
The 26-year-old quarterback has accumulated 12,639 yards, 81 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions with a 66.9% passing completion rate over his career.
