Brandon Aiyuk, a prominent wide receiver, is set to report to the San Francisco 49ers training camp, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.
Aiyuk had requested a trade due to stalled contract extension talks. While several teams have shown interest, the 49ers’ front office is firm on retaining him.
“We fully intend on Brandon being a Niner,” general manager John Lynch stated, as reported by Garafolo.
Entering the final year of his rookie contract, the 26-year-old is set to earn $14.1 million, per Over the Cap. Aiyuk has publicly expressed his desire for a substantial extension on social media and during offseason interviews.
It remains uncertain whether Aiyuk will engage in on-field activities during this week’s practice sessions. Lynch, however, anticipates full participation from all players, according to The Athletic’s Matt Barrows.
Aiyuk skipped both voluntary OTA sessions and mandatory minicamp last month. Under the league’s collective bargaining agreement, he would have faced fines of $50,000 per day for missing training camp.
In 2023, Aiyuk achieved a career-high 1,342 yards on 75 receptions and scored seven touchdowns, earning a second-team All-Pro selection. The 2020 first-round pick has accumulated 269 receptions, 3,931 yards, and 25 touchdowns over his career, now entering his fifth season.
