The Green Bay Packers have signed Pro Bowl defensive lineman Kenny Clark to a contract extension, the team announced on Sunday. Although Green Bay did not disclose the terms of the agreement, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the deal is valued at $64 million over three years. The new contract reportedly includes $29 million for 2024.
The extension also includes a $17.5-million signing bonus, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Clark, who had one year remaining on a four-year, $70-million extension from 2020, is now ranked 10th among defensive tackles in average annual salary, as noted by Spotrac. Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs leads the position with an average of $31.7 million.
A three-time Pro Bowler, Clark has spent all eight of his NFL seasons with the Packers, having appeared in 123 games since being drafted in the first round in 2016. Initially recognized for his strong run defense as a nose tackle, Clark has recently made significant contributions as a pass-rusher. In the 2023 season, he achieved career highs with 7.5 sacks, 16 QB hits, 44 tackles (nine for loss), and forced two fumbles.
Clark is a key player in the Packers’ defensive front, which includes interior lineman Devonte Wyatt and edge rushers Rashan Gary and Preston Smith.
The new deal for Clark is expected to reduce his 2024 cap hit, potentially providing the Packers with increased salary-cap flexibility as they continue to negotiate a new contract with quarterback Jordan Love.
