New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was absent from the team’s mandatory minicamp due to a previously scheduled trip to Egypt, sources confirmed to SNY’s Connor Hughes.
The 40-year-old Rodgers had planned the trip while recovering from an Achilles injury that prematurely ended his 2023 season after just four snaps. His fascination with Egyptian culture prompted him to schedule the visit, believing it would coincide after the team’s offseason program.
Rodgers faced scrutiny alongside pass-rusher Haason Reddick for missing the team’s mandatory two-day workouts. Head coach Robert Saleh acknowledged Rodgers’ absence, stating it was for a reason “very important to him,” as reported by The Associated Press.
While his absence was considered unexcused, the Jets remain confident it won’t impact Rodgers’ second year with the organization, according to Hughes. The veteran quarterback participated in the Jets’ voluntary offseason practices and workouts as part of his recovery process.
Saleh noted that Rodgers had informed the team of his plans ahead of time, though it remains unclear if his teammates were aware of his absence during the workouts. Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor unexpectedly found himself working with the first-team offense in Rodgers’ absence.
