Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs has been arrested for the second time within a month, facing charges of domestic violence/burglary in Alabama. According to records from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Buggs was released on a $5,000 bond on Sunday.
Details surrounding the arrest were not disclosed. The Chiefs acknowledged the situation but declined to provide further comment.
Buggs, aged 27, recently turned himself in on May 30 after being charged with two misdemeanor counts of second-degree animal cruelty. Allegedly, two dogs under his care were found severely neglected and malnourished, resulting in the euthanasia of one of the dogs.
Originally from Alabama, Buggs played three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before spending the past two seasons with the Detroit Lions. Throughout his career, he has started in 23 games out of 56 appearances, accumulating 89 tackles and two sacks.
Kansas City had planned to utilize Buggs to bolster their defensive line. However, subsequent to securing a long-term contract with All-Pro tackle Chris Jones and signing Derrick Nnadi and Tershawn Wharton, both previously free agents, their plans may evolve.
The Chiefs, who recently commemorated their latest championship with a ring ceremony and aspire for a historic third consecutive Super Bowl appearance, have encountered several off-the-field legal issues since their triumph over the San Francisco 49ers in February.
Wide receiver Rashee Rice is facing eight felony charges following a high-speed crash in Dallas. Additionally, offensive linemen Chukwuebuka Godrick and Wanya Morris were arrested last month in Johnson County, Kansas, for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
