The Houston Texans have inked a significant deal with wide receiver Nico Collins, securing his services for the next three years. The extension, negotiated by agents Drew Rosenhaus, Ryan Matha, and Jason Rosenhaus, amounts to $72.75 million, with a substantial $52 million guaranteed, as disclosed by sources to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday.
Collins, 25, is coming off a standout season where he boasted impressive statistics, tallying 80 receptions for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns in 15 games. This performance ranked him among the top receivers in the league, placing 23rd in receptions, 8th in receiving yards, and tied for 8th in touchdowns.
Originally drafted in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Collins has quickly emerged as a key player for the Texans. With this extension, he bypasses the uncertainty of unrestricted free agency, solidifying his position within the team.
The contract’s maximum value is set at $75 million, indicating the Texans’ commitment to Collins as a foundational piece of their offensive strategy. This move comes on the heels of the team’s acquisition of wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills in exchange for draft picks, further fortifying their receiving corps.
In addition to Collins, the Texans boast another promising receiver in Tank Dell, drafted in the third round in 2023. Dell showcased his potential with 709 yards in his rookie season and is expected to play a significant role alongside Collins.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans expressed his confidence in the team’s receiving trio, emphasizing their diverse skill sets and ability to make explosive plays. He highlighted their effectiveness on third downs and their knack for finding the end zone as key attributes that elevate the team’s offensive capabilities.
The extension of Nico Collins underscores the Texans’ commitment to building a competitive roster for the upcoming seasons, aiming to capitalize on the talents of their dynamic playmakers to achieve success on the field.
