Texans wide receiver Tank Dell sustained a minor injury in a shooting incident in Sanford, Florida, as confirmed by the team on Sunday. The 24-year-old has been discharged from the hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.
According to reports from Florida Today, the shooting occurred shortly after midnight at Cabana Live, where 10 individuals, including Dell, were injured. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office stated that the altercation, which led to the shooting, originated as a verbal dispute and later escalated. The shooter, a 16-year-old, was apprehended by a security officer at the venue.
“[Dell] has been released from the hospital and he is in good spirits,” the Texans said. “We are in contact with him and his family and will provide more updates when appropriate but ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in the incident.”
Dell, who was visiting his mother in his hometown of Daytona Beach, was identified as an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire, according to KPRC in Houston.
Drafted by the Texans in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Dell made a notable impact as a rookie, showcasing his skills as a valuable target for quarterback C.J. Stroud, who later earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. Dell recorded three games with over 100 receiving yards during his rookie season, with a notable 149-yard performance against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 11.
Unfortunately, Dell’s rookie campaign was cut short in Week 13 due to a fibula injury, requiring surgical intervention. Despite the setback, he concluded the season with 47 receptions, 709 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns.
