Isiah Harwell, ranked as the No. 14 prospect in the 2025 ESPN 100, has announced his commitment to the University of Houston. The announcement was made on Thursday.
Harwell, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard from Idaho, is the second five-star recruit to select Houston since 2012, according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello. He chose the Cougars over other top contenders, including Gonzaga, Texas, and California.
“I chose Houston because the culture fit,” Harwell stated, as reported by On3’s Joe Tipton. “I feel like I can thrive and succeed there, and I believe in coach Sampson and the whole staff. Coach Sampson has a way with speaking that just makes me motivated and ready to play. He also has a lot of experience and knows what he’s looking for.”
Under head coach Kelvin Sampson, Houston has reached the NCAA Tournament in six of the past seven years. In their first season in the Big 12, the Cougars finished with a 32-5 record and advanced to the Sweet 16, where they were defeated by Duke.
