The Philadelphia Phillies are shifting Taijuan Walker from the starting rotation to the bullpen, manager Rob Thomson announced on Thursday, according to MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki.
Walker has struggled this season, posting a 6.50 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP over 14 starts. In his most recent outing against the Houston Astros on Wednesday, Walker allowed six earned runs on 13 hits.
Tyler Phillips is the leading candidate to take over Walker’s spot in the Phillies’ rotation for Tuesday’s game in Toronto, though Philadelphia has yet to confirm this decision, per Zolecki.
Walker, 31, is currently in the second year of a four-year, $72 million contract with the Phillies, with $18 million owed for both 2025 and 2026.
As of Thursday, the Phillies are leading the NL East by five games over the second-place Atlanta Braves.
