Scottie Scheffler secured the TOUR Championship and the $25 million prize, capping off one of the most lucrative seasons in golf history.
Scheffler’s final round at East Lake Golf Club saw him finish with a 4-under 67, leading to a four-shot victory over Collin Morikawa, which earned him the FedEx Cup title and brought his total season earnings, including bonuses, to over $62.3 million.
This victory marks Scheffler’s eighth win of the season, including prestigious titles such as the Masters, The Players Championship, and the Olympic gold medal. His performance this year is the most successful on the PGA Tour since Tiger Woods’ eight-win season in 2006.
Scheffler entered the TOUR Championship as the top seed for the third consecutive year, starting the tournament at 10-under par with a two-shot lead. Despite challenges during the final round, including two consecutive bogeys that reduced his lead to two shots, Scheffler responded with three straight birdies, extending his lead and ultimately securing the title.
“He’s the guy to beat every single week,” said Justin Thomas. “I don’t think people understand how hard that is to do, when you’re expected to win, when you’re the favorite to win, when every single thing you’re doing is being looked at — good and bad — on the golf course.”
Morikawa, who finished second, earned a $12.5 million bonus, while Sahith Theegala closed with a 64 to secure third place and a $7.5 million bonus.
