PGA TOUR professional Grayson Murray, aged 30, tragically passed away, the PGA TOUR confirmed.
In a statement released through the PGA TOUR, Murray’s parents confirmed his death by suicide, expressing that “Although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now.”
Murray, scheduled to participate in the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial, withdrew from the event citing illness.
PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan expressed profound sorrow, stating, “We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words.”
Monahan continued, “The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”
Acknowledging Murray’s parents’ wishes, Monahan stated, “They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes.”
Murray secured victories at the 2017 Barbasol Championship and the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii, along with three wins on the Korn Ferry Tour.
His achievements included three consecutive Junior World Championships from 2006-08, becoming the second-youngest player to make a Korn Ferry Tour cut at 16, and competing at the 2013 U.S. Open as a 19-year-old amateur.
The Raleigh, North Carolina, native pursued his collegiate golf career at Wake Forest, East Carolina, and Arizona State.
