Injured midfielder Frenkie de Jong and former captain Georginio Wijnaldum have made the cut into the Netherlands’ 30-player preliminary squad for Euro 2024.
De Jong, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury for nearly a month, is set to undergo fitness assessments ahead of the tournament.
Saudi Arabia-based Wijnaldum, who returned to the national team in March after a nine-month absence, retains his spot in the squad.
The squad features Liverpool’s defensive stalwart Virgil van Dijk, midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, and striker Cody Gakpo, alongside Atletico Madrid’s forward Memphis Depay.
Notable absentees include Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber.
Manager Ronald Koeman will finalize his squad on May 29, reducing it to 26 players for the tournament in Germany.
The Netherlands will face Canada and Iceland in warm-up matches before their opening Group D fixture against Poland on June 16. They will also contend with France and Austria in the group stage.
