Harry Wilson scored twice in stoppage time to seal a dramatic 2-1 victory for Fulham over local rivals Brentford on Monday.
Brentford had taken the lead against the run of play in the 24th minute when Vitaly Janelt fired a powerful shot past Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno from outside the box.
Fulham, despite dominating possession, were unable to break through Brentford’s defence for most of the match. Their best chance in the first half came from Reiss Nelson, whose effort was saved by Brentford’s goalkeeper Mark Flekken.
It wasn’t until the final moments of the match that Fulham managed to find the net. Wilson, who had come on as a substitute, first equalised with a clever flick of the ball, looping it over Flekken from Adama Traore’s cross.
Just moments later, Wilson struck again. His attempted header came off his shoulder and wrong-footed Flekken, sending the ball into the top corner of the net to give Fulham the win.
Wilson commented on his late brace, saying, “It was an amazing feeling to come on and get the two goals to win the game. We deserved it, we kept them pinned in throughout.”
The victory moves Fulham up to ninth in the Premier League standings, just three points off the top four. In contrast, Brentford remains in 12th place after their late collapse.
Fulham’s attack had been stifled for much of the game, with their 25th attempt on goal finally breaking the deadlock. Despite the win, manager Marco Silva’s side will need to improve their finishing if they are to continue climbing the table.
Wilson, reflecting on his goals, added, “They both went in but not how I would have wanted! The first one I just helped it on to the back post and the second one was more lucky. I was trying to head it into the other corner but it hit my shoulder and went in.”
