Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe has been diagnosed with a thigh injury, which will likely sideline him for about three weeks, according to the club’s announcement on Wednesday. The French international was substituted during Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over Alaves, showing signs of discomfort.
Real Madrid’s medical staff confirmed that Mbappe sustained an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. In a statement, the club noted the results of the tests conducted on the player.
Mbappe scored a stunning goal in the thrilling match against Alaves and has found the net five times in his first seven league appearances this season. Following the game, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti addressed the situation, stating, “He’s fine, he’s fine, a little overloaded, he asked me for the change to avoid problems.”
With this injury, Mbappe will miss the upcoming La Liga derby against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday, where Real Madrid is currently one point behind league leaders Barcelona. Madrid has maintained an unbeaten streak in La Liga for 39 matches, dating back to a loss to Atletico last year.
Additionally, the striker is set to miss the Champions League match against Lille next week and may also be unavailable for October’s Nations League fixtures against Israel and Belgium with the French national team.
Mbappe joined Real Madrid this summer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, realizing a long-held ambition. After a brief adjustment period, he has recently found his form, contributing seven goals in nine matches across all competitions, including scoring in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta and his Champions League debut.
