Como secured their first Serie A victory in over two decades on Tuesday, defeating Atalanta 3-2 in a match postponed due to heavy rain in Bergamo, which rendered the pitch unplayable.
Cesc Fabregas’ Como side came from behind after Davide Zappacosta’s 18th-minute volley to claim their first win in Italy’s top flight since beating Torino on the final day of the 2002/03 season.
Gabriel Strefezza equalized shortly after halftime with a well-placed shot, and in the 54th minute, Como went ahead when Sead Kolasinac inadvertently deflected a strike from Nico Paz into his own net.
Alieu Fadera then sealed the win with a decisive individual goal, securing three points for Como in a match that surprised Atalanta’s home supporters.
With this win, Como moved out of the relegation zone and into 15th place in Serie A with five points, trailing 12th-placed Atalanta, who have six points, by one. Atalanta, the reigning Europa League champions, have had an unusual start to the season, losing three of their first five league games.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta had also drawn 0-0 against Arsenal in the Champions League the previous Thursday.
Ademola Lookman scored a late penalty in the ninth minute of stoppage time, but it was too late for Atalanta to mount a comeback.
