American-born Fabian Hurzeler made history on Friday as the youngest recipient of the English Premier League Manager of the Month award. The 31-year-old Brighton coach earned the recognition for his strong start to the season.
Hurzeler, who was appointed in June, is now the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history. Under his leadership, Brighton secured two wins and a draw in August, placing them second in the standings at the close of the month.
“It’s always a nice trophy (to win) as it confirms your work. Not only my work but the work from the whole club, my staff members, the players,” Hurzeler said. “It’s togetherness to win this trophy. Now it’s about winning the next one.
Brighton’s August fixtures included victories over Everton and Manchester United, followed by a 1-1 draw against Arsenal ahead of the international break. They are scheduled to face newly promoted Ipswich Town on Saturday.
Born in Texas, Hurzeler moved to Europe at the age of two. He succeeded Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton and has a contract that runs until 2027.
Before joining Brighton, Hurzeler was head coach of FC St. Pauli in Germany, where he was the second-youngest coach in the country at the time, appointed at 29 years and 11 months in 2022.
